Dinnie Stone Lift

12 Agosto 2019 - Ore 0:23

English version

A year ago, precisely on 5 August 2018, on the pages of Grip and Bend Italia, we announced an all-Italian tile in the mosaic of the International Strength. The great Enzo Donadio, at age 63 lift the Dinnie Stones, becoming the first Italian to have raised them, as well as the most veteran of ages to have made this incredible gesture of Strength.

Well, a year later, on August 4 last year, Enzo returned to Scotland with a clear goal in mind, to lift the Dinnie and transport it as tradition wants from one side of the small bridge to Potarch.

I constantly followed his training during this year, where Enzo had two stones roughly similar to the Dinnie Stones and with extra overload brought them to the competition weight, which I remind readers of is 332.49 kg total , the smallest 144.5 kg and the largest 188 kg.

After a winter of grueling training, without neglecting the work for atlas stones, his battle horse, Enzo is now certain he can handle the test well and even aim at The Ardblair Stones, a series of atlas stones to lift and load on barrels of whiskey with a weight starting from 18 to 152 kg, which takes place on the same day as the Dinnie Stones.

Unfortunately, hard workouts often cause unpleasant injuries, in fact, at 15 days from the long-awaited race, during one of the early morning training sessions (6:00 am) Enzo feels a sharp sting between his forearm and his right bicep. The pain increases in the following hours and the anger rises in realizing that right near the finish line he will have to turn around and go back.

On the phone, distraught Enzo tells me about his injury and tries to swallow the bitter reality in the best way.

But a man of Strength sells his skin dearly and Enzo devotes the remaining time to active recovery and treatments to speed healing. At the beginning of August, the will to participate wins over common sense and Enzo decides to take that flight that will take him to Scottish land.

The fateful day therefore arrives, but the fate, somewhat adverse, will wet the race with copious rain and this will compromise for all the transport test, too risky due to potential slips.

Enzo consoles himself by lifting the Dinnie Stones with his 64 springs on his shoulders with great power and control, as if he were a swaggering little boy, showing off the GBI shirt which, as red as fire, flames between the two stones with a long and noble history!

The crowd shouts loudly and is visibly happy for Enzo, who feels at home among these people, so genuine and sincere.

Unexpectedly Enzo is also competing in another stone from the great story, the Inver Stone weighing 123 kg. The temptation to embrace a stone that rises from the 1800s is strong and Enzo lets himself be tempted … by pulling it up without problems!

The time of the Ardblair Stones arrives, but wisely Enzo decides not to risk beyond the due, because after having cooled from the lifting carried out, the accident returns to be felt slightly and therefore it is not really the case to tease the fate.

This concludes another great milestone for his friend Enzo, who despite everything manages to bring home the satisfaction of hard lifting after a year of intense training. A friend and a man to be proud of, who has given luster to the Italian flag in Scotland.

  • Aggiungere qualcosa su Enzo rispetto a questo articolo, risulterebbe superfluo. Gran bello scritto sul grande Enzo.

  • Bellissimo articolo Giorgio.
